Time and tide wait for no man

In 2021 the Friends of Par Beach group (FoPB) were approached by the Time and Tide project about the potential of installing a tide bell on Par Sands. This would be the first one in Cornwall and one of only thirteen bells in England.

The bell highlights the issues associated with global warming and rising sea levels to the local residents, and particularly the children who will most be affected. Here in Par a large part of the local area sits below sea level and will be very vulnerable in future years.

FoPB had to raise considerable sums of money to help cover the costs to make this a reality. The FoPB were particularly grateful to our many local businesses and residents who have contributed to the project, in particular the Making Space for Sand project, who also supported us in the development of local interpretation about the bell. Our projects sit well together in helping the community in Par understand the problems they face in the years ahead.

The Par Sands tide bell inauguration event to held on the 27th May to celebrate their collaborative achievement.
